Furlough Assistance Available from FCCPS

Assistance during partial federal government shutdown
Posted on 01/10/2019

With the federal government furlough affecting so many in our Falls Church City community, assistance is available from FCCPS for impacted families and students.

School Lunches

FCCPS will be expediting Free and Reduced Lunch Applications. The furlough is considered a financial change in income and all families affected can apply immediately to get this benefit.  Approval takes only a day. Students would also qualify for our backpack program.
In addition, we will be allowing school lunch accounts, for affected students, to go into negative balances until the furlough ends to ensure all students eat.

Other Assistance

The Office of Special Education and Student Services offers support via the FCCPS Family Assistance Fund and our Family Resource Center.  Also, each school has a Social Worker on staff to help in times of need.

Our Social Workers can provide critical connections to additional community agencies and resources that can help with food, child care, rent, utilities, and medical expenses. Anyone who is experiencing temporary or long-term hardship should contact the Social Worker assigned to their student's school.  Their names, locations, and contact information are listed below:
