Big Dig Begins at New George Mason Site

Six Weeks of Dirt Work Begins

Postponed a day by torrential rainfall, the first dirt began moving moving at the new George Mason High School site in early July!

On Wednesday, July 10th, the first 30 trucks hauled off dirt, an amount that doubled the very next day. In all, it will take 5000 truckloads of dirt to remove what is needed to excavating the site.

Crews are digging a two story deep hole which in January of 2021 is schedule to house the new school's basketball courts, wrestling room and locker rooms plus a band room, rehearsal studios and a black box for various GMHS programs.

The concrete for the foundation is expected to start being poured by the end of August.

Some 4000 truckloads of dirt have now been moved out of the site. Overall approx. 32,000 tons have been removed to date which is 64% of the total to be removed and ahead of schedule. The first of the concrete foundation pouring is set to begin on Monday, August 19th.
