FCCPS Receives VBOE Excellence Awards

Governor Ralph Northam and the state Board of Education this week recognized Falls Church City Public Schools as the only school division in the state earning a 2018 Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) Board of Education Excellence awards for advanced learning and achievement.

The VIP program recognizes schools and divisions that exceeded state and federal accountability standards and achieved excellence goals set by the governor and the state education board during 2016-17. Falls Church City Public Schools met all state and federal accountability benchmarks and made significant progress toward goals for increased student achievement and expanded educational opportunities set by the board.

In addition, Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School and George Mason High School, Thomas Jefferson Elementary, Mary Ellen Henderson and George Mason High School are among 202 schools across the state to received the Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Awards for meeting all state and federal benchmarks and made progress toward the goals of the governor and the board.

"The criteria for these awards provide short-term and long-term goals for principals, superintendents, and communities as they develop the improvement plans all schools must have under the Board of Education's new accreditation standards," said Superintendent of Public Instruction James F. Lane. "Congratulations to the students and to the dedicated educators who made these successes possible."
