In the final year of the PYP, students participate in a culminating learning experience known as the Exhibition. This is a collaborative transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves students in identifying, investigating, and offering solutions to real-life, global issues or problems that the students have chosen to explore.
Investigations are conducted both individually and with their peers and are discussed weekly with the guidance of a mentor and classroom teacher.
The Exhibition process ends with the Exhibition showcase where students have the opportunity to share their research and findings with the community. Through the exhibition, students demonstrate their ability to take responsibility for their learning-- and the capacity to take action-as they are actively engaged in planning, presenting, and assessing learning (PYP: From principles to practice).
The PYP Exhibition has a number of key purposes:
To engage students in a collaborative, in-depth
To provide students an opportunity to demonstrate agency and responsibility for their own learning and explore multiple perspectives
For students to synthesize and apply learning of previous years and to reflect upon their journey through the PYP
To demonstrate how students can take action as a result of their learning, including sharing their learning
To unite the students, teachers, parents, and other members of the school community in a collaborative experience that incorporates the elements of the PYP
To celebrate the transition of learners from elementary to middle school
