WELCOME TO THE FCCPS Virginia's Visualization and Analytics Solution (VVAAS) RESOURCE PAGE
"The Virginia Department of Education [VDOE] ... is pleased to provide a new individualized report of your child's SOL testing history called the Student Assessment Summary report. This report is part of the new VVAAS (Virginia's Visualization and Analytics Solution) system that provides information to further support students. With this report, you can learn about your child's SOL performance over time and any patterns that may be present in your child's testing history. This report will also allow you to see how your child's performance compares to other students in the Commonwealth who took the same test ..."
The Virginia Department of Education has also established $30 million in Learning Acceleration Grants that parents can access to assist their child. The learning grants will provide up to $1,500 or $3,000 based on income for student tutoring and other educational services. Funds from the K-12 Learning Acceleration Grant are then paid directly to a tutor or service provider. Families can pick tutors that meet their needs from a list of approved tutoring providers. Families will not incur out-of-pocket expenses for these services. For more information visit:https://doe.virginia.gov/k12grants (VDOE, April 2023)."
VVAAS Resources for Parents
As VVAAS is a new tool from the VDOE, FCCPS is reviewing opportunities for the use of the VVAAS platform. In Spring 2023, FCCPS will forward parents the VDOE letter and the historical VVAAS Assessment Summary for each student who took Standards of Learning (SOL) Assessments in FCCPS.
The VDOE VVAAS Spring 2023 parent report is a Historical Report with SOL scores from prior school years and does not reflect any current school year (2022-23) assessment data. In this light, it should only be used as one potential data point.
The report will come by email from assessmentinfo@fccps.org. The VDOE letter in the email will have the VDOE logo on it; The report in the email will have a logo for "SAS EVAAS for K-12," the third party vendor for the Virginia DOE..
VDOE has created VVAAS Resources for Parents.
FCCPS recommends that all parents and guardians view the Understanding the Student Assessment Summary Report as this is a good starting point to understanding what the report offers and the context for this data.
The graph on the report uses State percentiles for comparison purposes. This means that student scores on the SOL test are rank ordered and assigned a percentile rank. You will NOT see your student's actual SOL score on this report. State percentiles are calculated in VVAAS each year for each SOL test. Students are compared to other students who also took that test in the same year. Students who took the test in different years can have different state percentiles even if they earned the same score on the SOL assessment. FCCPS recommends that parents focus on the performance levels shown on the second chart.
Of note on this document is the information that is not shared on the report, including actual SOL scores, progress toward graduation data, and non-SOL data points.
If you have questions please review the FAQ tab on the VDOE page.
