In light of the ongoing fire department investigation into a malfunctioning motor in a hot water heater at Meridian High School, we have several updates regarding school activities and the retrieval of personal belongings. All activities scheduled at the school for tonight, including basketball games and the 9th grade Info Night, are canceled. Additionally, students will not be permitted to re-enter the building this evening. For students who left belongings in the hallway, auditorium, or elsewhere throughout the building, these items will be secured tonight and can be picked up tomorrow morning in the cafeteria. We assure you that all left items will be secured this evening by FCCPS staff once the building is returned to school officials, ensuring their safety and security. While activities at our school are canceled, the Wrestling match at Yorktown will proceed as planned. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time and will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. FCCPS Communications

Due to the closure of the Meridian High School building by the Fire Marshal after smoke was detected, students will not be permitted re-entry, and as a result, may be without their laptops and other personal belongings. Addressing this issue will be a priority for us, but at the moment, ensuring the safety of our students is our foremost concern. We will provide further information on retrieving personal items as soon as it is safe to do so.

With the uncertainty of tomorrow morning's weather, logistical challenges, and out of an abundance of caution, Falls Church City Public Schools, Administrative Offices, and Extended Day Care Program will be closed on Friday, January 19th.

The Falls Church City Public Schools, Administrative Offices, and Extended Day Care Program will operate on a (two) 2-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17th. Day Care will not accept Drop-Ins. There will be NO Early Release Wednesday at any school. Please dress warmly.

Falls Church City Public Schools and the Extended Daycare Program will be closed on Tuesday, January 16th. We're expecting another 3 inches of snow tonight, and it's going to stay pretty chilly - below freezing for the next day or so. Stay warm and safe out there!

During its annual Organizational Meeting tonight, the Falls Church School Board unanimously elected Dr. Tate Gould as its Chair and Kathleen Tysse as the Vice-Chair for the 2024 term. While school instructional years operate on a July to June calendar, the School Board follows a calendar year schedule, primarily because school board elections occur every two years in November.
